Streamside Development Renderings to Show Possible Development Solutions
Addressing Public Feedback

The public will get its first look at possible options for streamside development adjacent to a whitewater park in Basalt at a community meeting Monday at Basalt Town Hall. In-stream whitewater features are slated for installation by Pitkin County Healthy Rivers next fall. Potential streamside solutions were the result of a two-month-long public input process. Everything from minimal development along the banks of the Roaring Fork to a larger-scale plan that includes a viewing deck and parking lot, and other amenities are being considered.

Engineers from River Restoration, the firm that is designing the whitewater park, used suggestions from the public to create a design proposal with ‘realistic solutions’ for access, spectating, and safety along Two Rivers Road.

The Town of Basalt has joined Pitkin County as a partner in developing the project. Officials expect the whitewater park to become an amenity that attracts visitors to Basalt.

The ‘Recreational In-Channel Diversion’ (RICD) for the whitewater feature was obtained by Pitkin County Healthy Rivers to maintain water flow in the section of the Roaring Fork River just downstream from Fisherman’s Park.

Streamside development options will be presented to the public at Basalt Town Hall on Monday, February 1st at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be televised and streamed live online at www.pitkincounty.com/watchwebcasts.
