As the days grow longer and outer layers are finally shed, the 55+ crowd is ready to spring into summer. Join Pitkin County Senior Services on June 18th for the “Aging Well ~ Spring Into Summer Wellness” at Aspen Valley Hospital from 3 to 6 p.m. to learn about all the events & activities that will be taking place in and around Pitkin County this summer. Participants will also be treated to live music, food & wine.

Representatives will be on hand to discuss nutrition, recreation, spirituality, social interaction and brain fitness for active adults, over 55 years of age. Information regarding more than 30 programs will be available including summer schedules, calendars, performances, health fairs, senior specials & discounts, and volunteer opportunities. Take a class, go fishing, dig in the dirt, attend a free concert or try a new walking trail with new friends.

If brain fitness is your game, the Pitkin County Library, Aspen Historical Society and the Basalt Regional Library will distribute information on their programs, book clubs, receptions and speaker series.

Want to be more physically active? Learn about the new Pickleball courts at the Aspen Recreation Center and Silver Sneakers. Programs at the Snowmass Recreation Center, Aspen Golf Club and Senior Center Exercise Classes will also be highlighted. For true westerners, the Snowmass Rodeo and Windwalkers will cover their planned calendars for those equestrian urges.

For artistic cravings, Theatre Aspen, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Aspen Music Festival, Aspen Words, Woody Creek Community Center and Red Brick Center for the Arts will distribute their summer performance schedules.

“There are so many great activities that are happening each week,” said Pitkin County Senior Services program coordinator, Mary Barbour, “We have created a one-stop-shop for the physically and socially active adults in our community, to make it easy for them to learn about and get to all the events this season.”

“Aging Well is a community-wide effort to really delve into what our local population of healthy, active, older individuals wants,” said Senior Services Director, Marty Ames. “We think this is a great way for our friends, neighbors and visitors to kick off their summer.”

Tom Ressel will play guitar while attendees are treated to local wines and light snacks. The event is FREE and open to all who are interested in learning more about the region’s summer programs and activities for those 55 years and older. There is something for everyone at the Aging Well 55+ Spring Into Summer Wellness event at the Aspen Valley Hospital on June 18th from 3-6pm. For more information, simply call 970-920-5432.
