Lost Registration or Title

Lost Registration

If you have lost, misplaced or accidentally destroyed your registration you can obtain a duplicate online or in person (ID required).
  • Only the owner or authorized agent may apply (ID may be required)
  • The fee is $4.00

Lost Title (Duplicate title)

If your original "Certificate of Title" has been lost, stolen, mutilated or become illegible you need to apply for a duplicate title. A duplicate title voids any previously issued Colorado title

Applying in Person

  • You may apply for a duplicate title in our office; often we are able to immediately print the title for you.
  • Only the owner or current lien holder can apply for a duplicate title. If you are not the owner, a motor vehicle power of attorney signed by the owner is required.
  • ID is required.
  • You will need the vehicle identification number (VIN) and Colorado title number. A copy of the current registration is helpful.
  • If the original title has a lien, the duplicate title will be mailed to the lien holder.
  • The fee is $8.20.

Applying by Mail

  • Access Duplicate Title Request and Receipt DR2539A (PDF).
  • Complete all portions of the DR2539A, including vehicle identification number (VIN) and Colorado title number. Include a copy of the registration if you have one.
  • Only the owner or current lien holder can apply for a duplicate title. If you are not the owner, a motor vehicle power of attorney signed by the owner is required.
  • If the original title has a lien, the duplicate title will be mailed to the lien holder.
