Jail Administration

Responsibilities
  • The Pitkin County Jail will function as a penal detention facility in accordance with the Colorado Revised Statutes and the requirements of Pitkin County.
  • To assist in the protection of the community from dangerous offenders, to provide the courts with a facility to allow proper sentencing and incarceration, and to insure attendance in court, the Pitkin County Jail will house lawfully charged pre-trial detainees, those individuals committed to the facility by the courts and sentenced Department Of Corrections inmates until transfer to the Department Of Corrections.
  • The Pitkin County Jail shall afford a safe, secure, and humane environment for inmates and staff. All constitutional rights ruled appropriate for inmates by the United States Supreme Court shall be provided. The Pitkin County Jail will make available services and programs to enhance physical and mental wellness and encourage self rehabilitation and successful re-integration to society for all inmates.
  • The Pitkin County Jail will be staffed and operated in a fiscally responsible manner and it shall be ultimately accountable to all citizens of Pitkin County.
  • The Pitkin County Jail will be an equal partner with all of the members of the Criminal Justice system in determining and assisting the operation of the local Criminal Justice system.
  • The Pitkin County Jail will be a flexible and evolving institution which responds to legal, humanitarian, and intelligent programs for change.
Pitkin County Jail Bond Policy
Bonding of inmates currently incarcerated in the facility will only be completed during the business hours of 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. 7 days a week.
