PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. (June 8, 2023) – To help ease congestion at the popular Wildwood put-in on the Roaring Fork River near Aspen, the White River National Forest and Pitkin County Open Space and Trails will be enforcing new rules prohibiting the practice of "double parking."
In past years, many Wildwood users would park their vehicles behind other cars and leave them unlocked with the keys inside so the owner of the blocked vehicle could shuffle vehicles as needed to get their own vehicle out.
“This practice added to the congestion of this small area, as well as created obvious safety concerns,” said Aspen-Sopris District Ranger Kevin Warner.
Wildwood is a popular launch spot on the White River National Forest for floats through the Pitkin County Open Space North Star Nature Preserve above Aspen.
New signs have been installed at Wildwood notifying users of the parking rules, which will be enforced by both open space rangers and forest protection officers. Camping, dogs and glass containers are also prohibited at Wildwood and North Star.
“If no parking is available at Wildwood, drivers should drop off equipment and passengers at the site, then drive to another North Star parking area and return via bicycle or on foot,” said Pitkin County Open Space and Trails Director Gary Tennenbaum. “A bike rack is available at Wildwood, and we will install paddleboard racks at Wildwood, South Gate, and the take-out at North Star.
Parking at the county’s North Star Nature Preserve is limited as well, and there’s no guarantee that a spot will be available. Visitors should consider using alternative means of transportation or be prepared to return at another time if no parking is available.

El Servicio Forestal impone las restricciones de estacionamiento en Wildwood
CONDADO DE PITKIN, COLORADO (8 de junio, 2023) - Para aliviar la congestión en el lugar popular de Wildwood en el Río Roaring Fork, cerca de Aspen, el Bosque Nacional del Río Blanco (White River National Forest) y el Departamento de Espacios Abiertos y Senderos (Open Space and Trails) del Condado estarán haciendo cumplir nuevas reglas que prohíben la práctica de doble estacionamiento.
Durante los últimos años, muchos usuarios de Wildwood estacionaban sus vehículos detrás de otros coches y los dejaban abiertos, con las llaves dentro, para que el propietario del vehículo bloqueado pudiera mover los vehículos según sea necesario para sacar su propio vehículo.
"Esta práctica agregó a la congestión de esta pequeña área, y también creó preocupaciones obvias de seguridad,” dijo el guardabosques del distrito de Aspen-Sopris Kevin Warner.
Wildwood es un lugar de lanzamiento popular en el Bosque Nacional llamado White River para flotar a través de la Reserva Natural North Star del Condado de Pitkin, cerca de Aspen.
Nuevos letreros están instalados en Wildwood que notifican a los usuarios de las reglas de estacionamiento, que serán aplicadas por los guardaparques de espacios abiertos y por oficiales de protección forestal. Campamento, perros y contenedores de vidrio también están prohibidos en Wildwood y North Star.
“Si no hay estacionamiento disponible en Wildwood, los conductores deben dejar el equipo y los pasajeros en el lugar, luego conducir a otro área de estacionamiento de North Star y regresar en bicicleta o a pie,” dijo Gary Tennenbaum, director de Espacio Abierto y Senderos del Condado de Pitkin. “Hay un portabicicletas disponible en Wildwood, y vamos a instalar estantes para los paddleboards en la Puerta Sur de Wildwood, y también en el lugar de salida en North Star.”
El estacionamiento en la Reserva Natural de North Star también es limitado, y no hay garantía que encuentre un lugar disponible. Los visitantes deben considerar medios de transporte alternativos o estar preparados para regresar en otro momento si no hay estacionamiento disponible.
