Platform provides intelligent, real-time data to first responders to support a faster and smarter emergency response
PITKIN COUNTY, (August 15, 2023) – The Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center achieved a significant breakthrough in emergency response capabilities by successfully locating a potential domestic kidnapping victim using Next Generation 911 technology (NG911) powered by RapidSOS. RapidSOS built the world’s first emergency response data platform to securely link data from more than 350 million connected devices and sensors directly to first responders during emergencies.
The platform provides intelligent, real-time data to first responders to support a faster and smarter emergency response. RapidSOS data is used by over 5,200 ECCs globally, covering 94% of the U.S. population, according to their website.
In July 2023, critical information was received from another local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Garfield County, alerting authorities that a victim was allegedly being held against their will in a dark sedan within the Roaring Fork Valley. While traditional PSAP technology, including tower location search warrants, only provided a broad three-mile radius, the advanced capabilities of NG911 drastically refined the search.
Leveraging RapidSOS technology, the Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center narrowed down the victim's location to a precise three-meter radius, exponentially enhancing the probability of a successful rescue. "We were searching for a dark sedan during the night. Without this state-of-the-art technology, pinpointing its location in such a vast area would have been virtually impossible," remarked Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy of Operations, Parker Lathrop.
