Pitkin County, CO (October 10, 2025) - Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center Director Brett Loeb has been named the 2025 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Finest Director of the Year by NiCE Public Safety, a national organization that recognizes excellence in emergency communications.
Now in its 20th year, the PSAPs’ Finest Awards honor outstanding dispatch professionals who serve as first responders as they answer 911 calls, coordinate emergency response, and ensure that help arrives where and when it’s needed.
Loeb was nominated for the prestigious national award for his technical innovations, steadfast commitment to the safety of Pitkin County residents and visitors, and particularly for his supportive leadership style. When Loeb first began his role, the Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center faced 30% annual attrition rates. Under his leadership, the center is now fully staffed and has retained nearly the entire team over the last two years.
“What makes Brett out even is the way he leads. He is described as patient, kind and empathetic — someone who is always available to support his staff, no matter the circumstance. His team members don’t just feel like employees under his leadership; they feel valued, respected and motivated to excel,” said Jennifer Martin, NiCE Account Executive, Public Safety and Justice during the award presentation.
Additionally, under Loeb’s direction, the Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center has implemented innovations in emergency response coordination, technology integration, and training that have strengthened the safety net across multiple jurisdictions.
“Brett’s determination and innovative spirit have transformed his center into one of the most forward-thinking emergency communications centers in the country,” said Martin.
Loeb thanked his team for the vital behind-the-scenes work they do, and shared the honor with them.
“Emergency communications professionals often go unseen, but their impact is profound,” Loeb said. “Dispatchers protect both the community and the responders, carrying
the weight of vigilance so that others can rest. I’m proud to be part of this movement to make our centers stronger, our culture more positive, and our profession even more meaningful.”
NiCE’s PSAPs’ Finest Awards program winners are chosen by an independent panel of judges from the public safety community, based on accomplishments, skills, knowledge, and dedication. More information on the 2025 award winners is available here.
