PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. (April 9, 2025) – Pitkin County is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Mahoney as the new deputy county manager. With a deep background in municipal leadership and a passion for community service, Mahoney brings more than 20 years of experience in planning, public engagement and administration to the role.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Ryan to the organization,” said Jon Peacock, Pitkin County manager. “The challenges ahead in the generational projects we’re undertaking align well with his skill set. Ryan also brings great familiarity with our community and will be a great fit for our organization.  From major infrastructure to climate action and housing, Ryan’s experience and leadership will be a strong asset to our team and the community.”

As deputy county manager, Mahoney will help lead several of Pitkin County’s most impactful infrastructure and strategic initiatives. These include the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) modernization project, the Pitkin County Landfill expansion, a long-range affordable housing strategy and the implementation of the Pitkin County Climate Action Plan.

Mahoney lives in Basalt with his wife and two sons, where he has served as town manager since 2017. He previously held roles as town administrator in Buena Vista and Dolores, Colorado.

Pitkin County looks forward to Mahoney’s leadership as the organization continues to evolve in service to the community. He will begin his new role on June 4, 2025. The position was previously held by Rich Englehart, who retired in March after eight years with the county.
