[ARCHIVED] Human Services Programming Update

Pitkin County logo

Pitkin County Human Services is sharing an important update regarding several federal funding streams that support local human services programs in Colorado.

The federal government has temporarily paused Colorado’s ability to draw down funds from three programs while a review is conducted:

  • Social Services Block Grant (SSBG)

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

  • Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF)

These programs help fund many essential services in the community, including:

  • Child welfare and adult protection services

  • Basic cash assistance programs and partner contracts

  • Child care assistance through the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCCAP)

This pause is related to a federal review focused on program integrity and eligibility compliance.

What this means for the community right now

At this time, services in Pitkin County continue as normal, including:

  • Child welfare assessments, case management, and prevention services

  • Eligibility processing and payments

  • Ongoing support to contracted providers

  • Continued documentation, verification, and required timelines

What is known so far

  • The State of Colorado is coordinating the response to the federal review.

  • The State has until January 20, 2026 to submit required information.

  • No direction has been given to counties to pause services or change operations at this time.

  • While there may be uncertainty as the review proceeds, no immediate changes are expected right now.

Pitkin County Human Services’ commitment

Pitkin County Human Services remains committed to maintaining stability and continuity of services for residents. If the State issues operational guidance, contingency plans, or required changes, updates will be shared promptly and transparently with community partners.
