[ARCHIVED] Pitkin County Honors Veterans with Community Ceremony and Tribute

Crowds gather at the admin building to honor veterans day

November 12th, 2024 – ASPEN, CO – Pitkin County gathered as a community on Veterans Day to honor the service, dedication, and sacrifice of local veterans in a heartfelt ceremony held in front of the County Administration Office. Residents, local leaders, and families joined together to express their gratitude to those who have served and protected our nation’s freedoms.

The ceremony featured speeches, tributes, and moments of reflection as attendees paid their respects to veterans from across generations. Community members attended to show support for the men and women who have served. Attendees had the chance to connect with veterans personally, sharing stories and expressions of gratitude.

“Veterans Day is a time for us to gather as a community to recognize the selfless service of our veterans and celebrate our contributions as Americans.” said Adam Lazaro Pitkin County Veteran Services Officer 

Following the ceremony, the community came together for a lunch hosted at the Aspen Elks Lodge, where attendees continued the conversations and tributes.

Supporting Pitkin County’s Veterans

Pitkin County’s Veterans Service Office remains committed to assisting veterans and their families beyond Veterans Day. The office offers resources to help veterans access a wide variety of federal and state benefits, including:

  • Disability and Pension Claims

  • Enrollment in VA Health Care Services

  • Certificates of Eligibility for VA Home Loan Guaranty

  • Educational, Survivor, and Burial Benefits

  • Life Insurance and State Veterans Nursing Homes Access

  • Special services, such as Disabled Veterans License Plates, Civil Service Preference Letters, and reissuance of military medals

These services are available year-round to support veterans and their families, ensuring they have access to the benefits and assistance they deserve. For more information, veterans and their families are encouraged to contact the Pitkin County Veterans Service Office.

Pitkin County extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended the ceremony and helped make Veterans Day a meaningful day of honor and remembrance. The event was a reminder of the sacrifices made by our local veterans and the support of the community for those who have served.
