[ARCHIVED] Open houses set on Lazy Glen Open Space plan

Lazy Glen Open Space

Public input into the management of Pitkin County’s Lazy Glen Open Space will be the focus of two upcoming open houses.

Pitkin County Open Space and Trails will host a March 7 open house specifically for Lazy Glen Subdivision residents, to take place from 5-7 p.m. in the Lazy Glen community meeting room. A second open house will be held at Basalt Town Hall on March 10, also from 5-7 p.m.
Refreshments will be served at both events.

Interested citizens will have a chance to review proposed uses of this midvalley open space property and provide comments. The draft management plan is available to view and download at www.pitkinostprojects.com. A comment form is provided on the website, as well.

Lazy Glen Open Space is about 73 acres located across the Roaring Fork River from Lazy Glen Subdivision. The Rio Grande Trail runs through the property and Bionaz Gulch, which is part of the open space, accesses BLM land to the north. The gulch access is closed pending adoption of the management plan.

Proposed management of the open space includes accommodations for small-scale agriculture through an agricultural lease, riparian-area restoration, a bridge across the river and trail links on the open space to connect the subdivision with the Rio Grande Trail, and an area to walk dogs under sight and voice control on the south side of the river.

Public comments will be accepted through April 8. Final adoption of the plan by the Open Space and Trails Board is scheduled in early May.
