The 50 kW Charger Capable of Charging a Car in 30 Minutes
Electric car owners in the Aspen area can now charge their vehicles in a fraction of the time now that the new 50 kilowatt charging station is up and running at Pitkin County Public Works. The new, faster charging station joins four existing lower kilowatt charging stations in the Public Works parking lot at 76 Service Center Road across Highway 82 from the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. All of the charging stations are available to the public at no charge.
“We’re really excited to be able to make it possible for electric car owners to conveniently charge their vehicles,” said Pitkin County Fleet Manager, Jonah Frank. “We also hope that by providing easy ways for folks to charge their cars that more people will use electric cars in our community and grow the alternative fuel usage along with cut down on pollution,” Frank said.
In addition to the new, high speed charger, there are four Level 2 charging stations which take approximately four to six hours to fully charge a car. The service is free and available to the public any time of the day or night.
The chargers were purchased by Pitkin County with help from a $16,000 ‘Charge Ahead Colorado’ grant.
There are also car chargers located inside the City of Aspen’s Rio Grande parking facility. Two level 2 electric car chargers and one fast charger are located there.
