Pitkin County Open Space and Trails is seeking public input on scenarios for parking and access to North Star Nature Preserve, with the goal of implementing changes starting in 2017.
Open Space and Trails will host a Sept. 8 open house from 5-6 p.m. at its 806 W. Hallam St. offices, allowing the public to view schematics of possible parking and access configurations, and to provide comment. The schematics can also be viewed at www.pitkinostprojects.com (click on the North Star Management Plan link), where an online survey is available to provide input.
Open Space and Trails is also seeking feedback on its management efforts at North Star this summer, as it prepares for managing the popular preserve in 2017. The online survey includes questions about what has occurred at North Star this year. Management efforts have included additional ranger patrols, the hiring of a forest protection officer, on-site education and outreach, a website devoted to educating North Star users, and, most recently, new signs at the access points to North Star.
The public may also comment on management efforts at North Star during the open house.
Open Space and Trails offices are now temporarily located in the Forest Service building on the S-curves in Aspen. The parking lot is accessed off North Seventh Street. The building is on the corner of Hallam and Seventh.
