The end of the public comment period for the draft environmental assessment for airport improvements is approaching and the public is encouraged to comment online or in-person before the document goes to county commissioners for a vote.
Two public hearings are planned in order to take additional public comment in-person:
September 25th, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. - Pitkin County Library - William Dunaway Community Room and on September 26th, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Snowmass Village Town Hall.
The draft EA, which culminates two years of study and public involvement every step of the way, was published in late August. It is available for public review and comment through October 3rd in several locations:
Online at www.pitkincountyconnect.com and www.aspenairportplanning.com
Hard copies: Aspen/Pitkin County Airport Administration offices - 0233 Airport Rd. Aspen, Suite A., Pitkin County Community Development - 130 S. Galena St., Aspen, Pitkin County Library - 120 N. Mill St., Aspen, and at Pitkin County Administration - 123 Emma Rd., Basalt.
The end of the public comment period is Monday, October 3, 2017. County Commissioners will review and discuss the draft EA and public comments at their October 10th worksession.
“We’re very pleased with the public involvement in this process to date,” said Airport Director, John Kinney. “We just want to make sure that everyone who has an opinion about the proposed improvements has had a chance to either meet with us or comment in one way or another,” Kinney said.
Once the comment period is complete any additional comments or feedback will be included, along with responses to the comments in the Final EA. A final EA is expected to be considered by commissioners in November.
