[ARCHIVED] Bike to work, and assess the Rio Grande Trail while you're at it

Those who commute to and from Aspen via the Rio Grande Trail, or simply recreate on the trail, are invited to offer their thoughts on where they’d like to see more amenities along the route.

Pitkin County Open Space and Trails will have a booth at Aspen’s Bike to Work Day celebration on Wednesday, June 26 and will survey Rio Grande users on where the trail could use a bench, a table and shelter, a restroom, etc.

The portion of the Rio Grande Trail within Pitkin County (between Aspen and Emma) is the focus as Open Space and Trails develops a “Node Plan” that will identify spots along the trail where additional amenities are needed. Locations for historical interpretation of sites along the trail will also be part of the plan.

The city’s Bike to Work Day celebration will take place at Paepcke Park from 7-10 a.m. There will be about 15 vendors at the free event, plus breakfast treats for those who commute into town via bicycle.

The Open Space and Trails survey on Rio Grande Trail nodes will also be available at www.pitkinOSTprojects.com starting June 26. In addition, OST staff will be at the Aspen Saturday Market on June 29 and at the Basalt Farmers Market on July 14 to seek feedback on the Node Plan.
