A draft of the 2020 North Star Nature Preserve Management Plan is now open to public comment.
An online link to provide feedback is available at www.pitkinOSTprojects.com – click on the North Star page. Also available on the web page is the draft plan and a summary of the proposed management actions contained in the plan. The actions relate to natural resources, recreation management, and education and outreach at North Star.
In addition to the online survey, Open Space and Trails is in the process of scheduling events to discuss the plan with the public and collect input.
The 2020 plan is an update of a North Star Management Plan adopted in 2015. The North Star plan is on a 5-year schedule of reviews and updates. The 2020 update was drafted following public input via an initial survey that began in late 2019 and concluded in January 2020. The Open Space and Trails Board reviewed the draft plan on Feb. 6 and authorized its release for the current round of public comment.
Pitkin County Open Space and Trails will collect community feedback through April 1. Then, after potential changes to the plan in response to input from the public as well as various organizations and stakeholder groups, the plan will go the Open Space and Trails Board for approval on May 7. The Board of County Commissioners will consider the plan at two readings – on May 27 and June 10. A public hearing and final adoption is slated for June 10.
