[ARCHIVED] Bridge replacement set on Hunter Creek Trail

OST logo

Replacement of a bridge on the lower Hunter Creek Trail will begin Monday, Sept. 21, closing the trail to through traffic from both directions for about two weeks.

Pitkin County Open Space and Trails, along with a Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers crew, will replace the aging deck and railing on the span. Hikers and bikers will not be able to cross the creek at the bridge location during construction.

The bridge is one in a series of five bridges on the lower Hunter Creek Trail; two others were reconstructed in recent years. The span is located .24 miles downstream of the Benedict Bridge and .40 miles upstream from the bottom of the Lani White Trail. The bridge is .61 miles from the Hunter Creek Trailhead off Lone Pine Road.

The bridge work was originally scheduled in the spring, but Covid-19 forced a delay of the project until fall.
