Pitkin County, CO -Today Governor Polis announced new changes to the State Dial. Pitkin County is officially moving to Level 3- Orange tomorrow. This means reduced capacities for our restaurants, gyms and other sectors. However, as our incidence rate has climbed above 350/100,000 people - the metric for the new Red level announced today- Pitkin County remains at risk of moving into this Red level and determining what is best for our community.
“We are committed to working collaboratively with our community, businesses and the Board of Health to make a decision of what is best to save our winter season, keep our children in school and safely celebrate the holiday season,” said Karen Koenemann, Pitkin County Public Health Director.
The State announced these potential dial changes on Sunday and Governor Polis shared the changes with the public during a press conference this afternoon. Pitkin County is slowing down the process in an effort to craft a more effective strategy based on input from every sector of the community. Public Health remains committed to community engagement and determining what is best for our community’s social, fiscal and physical health for today, and for the winter season. A full discussion of moving into this new red will be presented at the BOH meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
In addition, Pitkin County will be hosting a community meeting at 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday to discuss the outcome of these decisions and what we as a community need to do to take control of an alarming trend that is happening statewide.
