[ARCHIVED] ASE aircraft departs after curfew due to maintenance issue prior to runway closure

At 11:11pm on May 17, a commercial aircraft departed Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) after the 10:30pm aircraft departure curfew due to a maintenance issue.

The aircraft was issued an extension to fly out 41-minutes after curfew because ASE’s only runway was due to close for a week of maintenance work later on Monday night. While ASE strives to maintain a strict flight curfew, enabling the aircraft to depart before runway maintenance began was an important safety measure.

The delayed aircraft was American Airlines flight #3234 to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW). The airline was issued a curfew violation by the Airport.

The ASE runway is now closed for maintenance and painting and will reopen at 7am on May 24, 2021. Aircraft operations will be limited to emergency medevac and mountain rescue operations. The terminal will remain open during business hours only.
