PITKIN COUNTY- Today at approximately 9:54 a.m. a private aircraft landing at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport experienced partial landing gear collapse, was blocking the runway, and is currently being removed. The passengers and crew are unharmed.
Upon the incident, the airport has been temporarily closed and will likely remain closed for 1-2 more hours until the runway is clear and safe to resume operations.
Emergency responders and mutual aid responded swiftly and included Airport staff, Aspen Fire, Aspen Ambulance District, Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and additional assistance by Atlantic Aviation. Mutual aid was already on scene due to today’s planned triennial safety training exercise. Coincidentally the airport had scheduled a triennial safety training exercise for today. The exercise was cancelled may be rescheduled at a future date.
