Pitkin County, CO - Beginning Monday, August 23rd, facemasks will be required in Pitkin County facilities regardless of vaccination status. All members of the public and employees must wear masks when entering county facilities and in shared public indoor spaces including hallways, bathrooms, kitchen areas or meeting rooms. Facemasks will also be required when members of the public are attending Board of County Commissioner (BOCC) meetings in-person. Please note virtual attendance is available as well.
Pitkin County is now seeing an uptick in positive cases as the prevalence of the Delta variant increases in our community. On July 27th, the CDC issued interim guidance that all individuals, fully vaccinated or unvaccinated, wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas with substantial or high transmission rates. Currently, Pitkin County is at a High Risk Level.
The goal of this requirement is to bring transmission levels down and ensure our hospital capacity is not maxed as we enter the 2021-2022 school year and winter tourism season. The BOCC will re-evaluate this requirement once the county moves back into lower risk levels per the CDC COVID-19 Data Tracker.
