Pitkin County Healthy Rivers helped fund the critically acclaimed water documentary “The Great Divide” that is being screened at no charge to local audiences at the Crystal Theatre in Carbondale this week.
The $5,000 contribution was given as part of the Healthy Rivers grant program.

“The mission of Healthy Rivers is to protect, defend and enhance rivers and streams on the western slope,” said Healthy Rivers Board Chair, Andre Wille. “The Healthy Rivers board supported this project because we believe it highlights some of the the urgent challenges we face in managing this precious resource,” Wille said.

According to Emmy Award filmmaker, Jim Havey the film follows the history of water flows in Colorado ‘from Ancient Puebloan cultures and the gold rush origins of Colorado water law to agriculture, dams, diversions and conservation. The film reveals today’s critical need to cross “the great divide,” replacing conflict with cooperation.”

The Roaring Fork Conservancy is hosting The Great Divide at the Crystal Theatre in Carbondale on Thursday, September 24th beginning with a reception at 5:30 followed by the screening at 6:00 p.m. A Q&A session with the filmmaker follows the screening at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is requested for tickets by going to www.roaringfork.org.
