Pitkin County, CO (August 27, 2025) - The Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners approved an ordinance accepting the transfer of the Brush Creek Park and Ride property from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to Pitkin County ownership.

The transfer ensures that the 27.2-acre property will remain a cornerstone of regional transportation in service to the community. Brush Creek Park and Ride, located at the intersection of State Highway 82 and Brush Creek Road, serves as a key hub for the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) and it’s routes throughout the county, including the Aspen Snowmass ski resort the City of Aspen, and the Town of Snowmass Village.

“This action secures the long-term future of Brush Creek Park and Ride as a vital resource for our community and region,” said Brian Pettet, Pitkin County Director of Public Works. “By assuming ownership, Pitkin County can ensure continuity of operations and ongoing investment in sustainable transit solutions.”

Since its creation in the late 1990s, the Brush Creek Park and Ride has grown from a 200-space lot into a 400-space facility featuring improved lighting and underground conduit to support future electric vehicle charging. While Pitkin County has historically maintained the property, the deed transfer now stipulates the area will be directly overseen by Pitkin County with operational funding provided by the Elected Officials Transportation Committee (EOTC).

The site has played an essential role in reducing traffic congestion along State Highway 82 and providing reliable public transit access for residents, commuters, and visitors. The use of the property is deeded to continue to serve Pitkin County’s future Comprehensive Planning including regional transit based solutions.
