Carlyn Porter
Emergency Response & Epidemiology Program Administrator

Carlyn serves as Pitkin County’s Epidemiologist and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. She studied Psychology and Geography during her undergraduate work at Florida Atlantic University before going on to receive her M.A. in Anthropology from FAU. While writing her thesis in Medical Anthropology and working at the local library, she also completed a Master of Public Health degree from the University of West Florida, with a concentration in Environmental Health. She started her career with the state health department and local governments in South Florida, specializing in mosquito-borne disease during the emergence of Zika virus. She relocated to Colorado to work for the City of Aspen in the Environmental Health and Sustainability department. When the county formed a new health department, she was excited to join the team as a communicable disease specialist, overseeing the epidemiology and emergency preparedness programs. Carlyn happily calls Glenwood Springs home with her librarian husband Matt, and their Australian Shepherd Stella.
